She was the first children's author to be made a MacArthur Fellow. Virginia was the recipient of the MacArthur Fellowship in 1995 for weaving Black folktales and narratives into children's literature, and respecting children's intelligence and ability to grapple with tougher ideas. Virginia Hamilton also wrote the Collections series which has 9 books including The Time-Ago Tales of Jahdu and Time-Ago Lost: More Tales of Jahdu. The most recently released novel was Time Pieces which was released in 2002. The first standalone was released in 1967 with the novel Zeely. Virginia Hamilton is probably best known for her Standalone Novels. Hamilton attended Antioch College, The Ohio State University and the New School University’s School of Social Research. Virginia passed away February 19th, 2002 at 65 years old. Virginia Hamilton was born on March 12th, 1936.
